Abstract

Melaleuca leucadendra L. belongs to the Myrtaceae family which is thought to be useful as an immunomodulator. In Indonesia, the use of Melaleuca leucadendra L.for health has not been fully utilized, and there is still a lack of research on this plant. In order to be developed as a traditional medicinal ingredient, it is necessary to know the content of secondary metabolites found in eucalyptus leaf extract. This study aims to determine the profile of secondary metabolites contained in Melaleuca leucadendra L.  extract using Thin Layer Chromatography. Extraction of Melaleuca leucadendra L. was carried out using 96% ethanol by maceration method. The extracts that have been obtained were then screened for phytochemicals using Thin Layer Chromatography. In the Thin Layer Chromatography test, the sample was spotted, eluted and identified directly. The results of the Thin Layer Chromatography test showed that the ethanol extract of Melaleuca leucadendra L. positively contained polyphenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins and steroids.
